AI might be the answer to your struggles with getting a job. Do you not believe me? Keep reading to understand why.
Are you a recent college graduate? Maybe you are a member of the class of 2025 who is fresh out of school. And maybe you are trying to navigate the current job market and starting to feel discouraged.
Or maybe you’re a member of the class of 2024 who’s stuck in a job that you don’t feel passionate about. You may feel you have no choice but to stick with it because it beats being unemployed.
Regardless of the category in which you happen to find yourself, I want you to know that you are not alone! Maybe that does not help a lot but it can be comforting to know that people can relate to the things that you are going through.
Afterall, if so many fresh graduates are experiencing the same struggles, can we really blame ourselves? Maybe the system is the thing that is at fault and, for the most part, that is almost entirely out of our control.
So, if you have found yourself here and you are reading this blog post, I think it is safe to assume that you would love to finally break into the job market and find that job that you are passionate about (or at least something very close to it).
This begs the question…
What can you do to help yourself throughout this chapter of your life? We already established that it is rather hard to change the system in which we find ourselves currently. We do not quite have that level of power and influence. Not yet at least.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
I have one recommendation: Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Now, I understand that AI is a rather controversial and polarizing topic for many people. Some love it and some absolutely despise it. To be honest, I think I fall somewhere in the middle: I can see both the advantages and the disadvantages of it.
However, throughout my final years of undergrad (I am a May 2025 graduate), I found myself playing around with and learning more about AI as much as I could. Both in the classroom and in my own free time.
As someone who is also navigating the job search process, I have been able to use ChatGPT in ways that have significantly reduced the levels of stress and anxiety that accompanies this transitional period in the lives of me and my fellow Gen Z folks.
For some context, I have consistently landed first and second interviews for positions in many different fields from human resources (HR), behavioral health, teaching, sales, recruiting, research, and so many others. I have received many job offers as well by using the methods that I am about to share with you.
So, here you go. Grab a pen and paper (or an iPad and a stylus) and make note of the two most important ways that you can use ChatGPT to help you to go from being unemployed and struggling to land any interviews to having so many job offers under your belt that you can rest easy at night knowing that those four years of your life were definitely not for nothing.
AI Tip #1
Tip 1. Tailor your resume to the position
Step One: Upload your full, comprehensive CV to ChatGPT
Make sure that the version of your CV that you upload contains all of your experiences. You want to provide ChatGPT with all of your past work, volunteer, and educational experiences, etc. in preparation for the next steps.
Step Two: Upload a description of the role and the requirements to ChatGPT
This step is self-explanatory. You want to provide ChatGPT with the position that you would like it to tailor your resume for.
Step Three: Enter the following prompt so that the AI software tailors your resume for the position.
Prompt: “Based on the CV uploaded previously, tailor my resume for the role/position above. Here’s what I want to highlight [list skills/experiences you want emphasized]. I want it to sound [e.g., professional, creative, data-driven, people-focused].”
Note: You do not necessarily need to state the experiences you want to be emphasized as the software is very intelligent and does a great job of picking out those experiences that will show that you are a great fit for the role. Therefore, the prompt could be as simple as this: “Based on the CV uploaded previously, tailor my resume for the role/position above. I want it to sound [e.g., professional, creative, data-driven, people-focused].”
AI Tip #2
Tip 2. Create a cover letter for the position
Note: You can jump to step three if you are using the same chat conversation for both the tailored resume and the cover letter.
Step Three: Enter the following prompt.
Prompt: “Create a cover letter for the role above based on my previously provided CV.”
These are the exact prompts that I use throughout my job search and have worked wonders for me. Please note that I am no one special: I do not go to some Ivy League school, nor do I have some magic list of connections at these companies that add to my chances of success. Therefore, I am very confident that these tips when used correctly will be helpful for most other people in similar positions.
AI is an aid, not a replacement
IMPORTANT NOTE:
It is always my recommendation to read through any information that AI generates on your behalf and this is no exception. Proofread for errors, tone of voice, and stylistic elements that you do not want present in the final versions of your documents. AI should be used as an aid. It should not completely replace your judgment and knowledge as it is prone to certain errors.
I have SO MANY OTHER TIPS for interviewing, sending follow up emails, and so on that I can share if you guys are interested.
